WHAT IS IT?
In June 2022, Revista Arte Brasileira started taking suggestions for stories from foreign artists. As the magazine is focused on Brazilian arts, an exclusive space for this demand was created as a solution to this impasse. Since then, we are proud to have shared more than 3,000 non-Brazilian songs and artists from all corners of the world, such as Europe, Oceania, Africa, Asia, North/Central/Latin America, and from specific countries that get little space in Western and/or traditional media, such as Trinidad and Tobago, Bulgaria, Panama, Taiwan, Poland, Jamaica, China, South Africa, Cuba, Russia, and many others. ALÉM DA BR has a strong readership, with its main audience being Americans and Europeans. The success of the ALÉM DA BR column is such that we decided to inaugurate this Award, which should be held annually, with the aim of becoming a traditional Award, contested and recognised nationally and internationally.

OPERATION
The ALÉM DA BR Award will have three stages. In the first, ten artists/ bands will be selected through a popular vote, held via an online panel in which anyone with an email address can choose their favourite, and then ten names will be selected for the first stage of the technical jury, a panel of music experts who will technically evaluate the ten approved in the popular vote stage, thus culminating in the result of the three finalists. The announcement of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners, together with the jury’s comments, will be shown on the Arte Brasileira magazine website and YouTube channel, as well as on the judges’ social media pages.
Summary: 1) Popular vote stage, which will choose the ten best; 2) First technical jury stage, which will choose the three finalists; and 3) Second technical jury stage, which will choose the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.
NOTE: The dates of the next stages will be announced before the end of registration and all registered artists/ bands will be updated by e-mail.
AWARDS
All of the following awards do not compare to the title itself, i.e. the raw fact of having been the winner or having been among the first placed in the debut edition of this Award, which aims to stand out in the world music market. After all, the artist will carry an international award with them for the rest of their life.
- All entrants will receive certificates of participation, with thanks from Revista Arte Brasileira for having collaborated with this Award and with the Magazine itself (read the next topic to understand);
- With the exception of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, the ten candidates who go through to the technical jury stage will also receive a special certificate congratulating them on their achievement;
- The top three in the technical jury will receive trophies congratulating them on their achievement. They will also be featured in one or more media outlets, and will be biographed for the Arte Brasileira magazine website, being presented as the top winners of the ALÉM DA BR Award;
- The three finalists will be widely publicised in Arte Brasileira magazine, with banners featured on the homepage and post pages. They will also receive press relations services from the ASSESSART Agency, which will present the artist to the Brazilian press, from specialised to mainstream media, always highlighting them as finalists for the Award:
- 1st PLACE (winner): will be entitled to four press relations services, i.e. we will provide press relations for three of the artist’s future releases;
- 2nd and 3rd PLACERS: will each be entitled to an advisory service.
- The big winner will receive a symbolic sum of 250 dollars, which will be paid in Brazilian reals (approximately R$1,500 at the current exchange rate).
FAR BEYOND THE PRIZE
In the 21st century, maintaining, developing and working on an alternative communication and arts vehicle is a challenging task, especially when it comes to survival and financial development. In this sense, it’s important to say: the profits made from entries to the ALÉM DA BR Award, as well as covering the costs of the Award itself, will be used to finance the 2025 edition of Revista Arte Brasileira. Our objectives include:
- Hiring one or more trainees, something elementary and without which we will not be able to evolve;
- Hire freelancers for social media and video/audio editing;
- Financing columnists to join the magazine’s permanent staff;
- Perfecting the aesthetic and navigation structure of our portal, improving the public experience, as well as something similar on our social networks;
- Buy filming and recording equipment, as well as paid versions of technologies such as Canvas;
- Having reserves for the maintenance of our technological devices, such as computers, laptops, cameras, etc;
- Have bookings for official magazine trips;
- Rent or set up an audio and video recording studio;
- Investment in publicising the magazine on social networks;
- Carrying out social and educational activities;
- Investment in paid-for products for the project’s self-sustainability: books, streaming videos, documentaries, ebooks, etc.
In short, as well as taking part in the first edition of the ALÉM DA BR Award and having the chance to be recognised for this Award, you are collaborating with our project on an impressive scale. What’s more, your name will be eternalised as our supporter on a panel that will be created after the Award, where all the candidates will be displayed. You can already see how grateful we are, can’t you? So come with us and, together, let’s build the reputation of ALÉM DA BR and promote journalism that is TRUE and that will REVOLUTIONISE cultural journalism.
